Dell Inspiron Mini Duo 3487FNT Convertible Laptop/Tablet (Nebelnacht)

First of all, just as I was getting into this laptop, the hard drive died 3 days later. I was very disappointed to say the least. I first had issues with the accelerometer not automatically adjusting from landscape to portrait mode when using the Duo in tablet mode. This required a wonderful phone call to Dell tech support where they reinstalled some drivers remotely and then tried to sell me an extended warranty which I declined. Then 3 days later the OS comes to crawl. Tried a reboot and it didn't work. Another half hour call to Dell tech support just to give the obvious indication that the hard drive was corrupted. I sent it back to Amazon. On the plus side I was starting to enjoy it. A pound lighter would have been better as an e-reader in tablet mode as it can feel a little heavy over time. The touchscreen was very responsive. With the Kindle app I could mean Download Kindle books and it looked very good and the pages turned flawlessly with the slightest touch. In tablet mode I used standard Internet Explorer for browsing and I-Tunes for music as I had no plans to use Napster or their E reader service. Their movie rental software would have been useful on long trips and the movie trailers played very well. The touch screen took some getting used to with Internet Explorer as some of these tabs were too small to fit on the screen touch so there were some touch errors before I got them. It seems very well made, at least on the outside. I'm still considering giving the Duo another chance as I've really gotten into its small size and portability. I'll do a little more research first to make sure there aren't any hidden issues with this laptop. As I said , I liked it while it lasted.....3 days.Update 5/21/11 Ordered a new duo and I'm happy with it.It's interesting that the first laptop that died had a weird clicking sound when I it was tipping which sounded like there was a screw loose. The fact that the new laptop doesn't make that noise makes me think it might be a poorly made or even dropped laptop. Don't know. I All I can say is that I'm happy with this laptop. A little more responsiveness when loading applications would make this a five star product, but for a first try from Dell it's pretty good. I've already had al le downloaded my pictures, microsoft office, set up my email, kindle app.etc. with room to spare. Raised my rating from 3 to 4 stars. A better CPU and 4GB RAM slot would have made it a 5 star. Update 10/13/11 I bought another one a few weeks later after returning this duo. Lasted about 5 months before it started to drastically slow down in performance. The hard drive died again. I am very disappointed in this product and have Dell completely abandoned.
