Dell XPS 15 UHD 15.6" Touchscreen Laptop (Intel Core i7 4712HQ 2.3GHz Processor, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Windows 8.1 OS) Silver

3.5 stars.I like it a lot but I hate it a lot. It's fast, REALLY fast. I bought the TB version and then upgraded to an SSD myself and it was $400 cheaper than if I bought it that way. I used Easus to upgrade to an SSD to migrate and it was all pretty painless and I get a hybrid TB drive for a little later. Once I completed the swap it booted in less than fifteen seconds. After adding all the software I need for my work takes less than 30 seconds, which is still remarkably fast. The screen is pretty but gets greasy to the touch, but that's to be expected and doesn't change my rating. It's very thin, very light. Very pretty too One small thing I wish was different, I wish it had the same brushed aluminum finish on the palm rest. I think it would have looked a little better. I hate those parts! The UHD screen, which looks pretty, messes up programs like Adobe Photoshop, Autodesk CAD, and more. It turns toolbars into useless tiny versions of normal toolbars. There's a workaround if you want to deal with that, but it's something Work and not for the faint of heart. No LAN port. I was amazed, my job requires me to be able to connect to work regularly, the first time I used it, I was surprised. I bought a $15 USB 3 dongle that served the purpose Fulfills. The dock - really hate that the most. I've had a D630 for years, you drop it on the dock and it charges, hooks into all the ports, no hassle, no fuss. Laptop is fifteen years old now. Now has to For my 2K laptop, I need to connect power and USB to use it. Also, I have to open the screen and press the power button, wait for it to boot up, and then close the screen for the other two to take over. Same as my desk is set up I can't really use the laptop as a display because it's too far away, too small. If you get all of this wrong the laptop won't boot and requires it to be shut down. My very old Logitech wireless keyboard and -Mouse can sometimes not be reconnected and must be disconnected from the network. I hate windows 8.1 the apps feature doesn't work for me but i fixed that with start 8 which is a workaround for two finger scrolling but i like the pinch zoom when i can get it to work which is about 1 to 5 times is when I try. Also, the ambient light sensor was an issue out of the box, no matter what I did I couldn't brighten the display. I found a way around this by disabling the ambient light sensor. The battery was terrible before, but it definitely will now Worse. I think on a good day 2-2.5 hours before I need a charge. Worse when running something via USB. Tried different adapters with the same result. It's almost like the Lost power to port, I will address this issue another day. I'm giving it 3.5 stars because I can subdue it to do what I want and because it's so fast and so pretty. I'm deducting 1.5 stars because why would I have to? I have a lot Paid money for this thing, why shouldn't all the Dell parts work together? I'm hoping that in the future a graphene battery will be available for it and double or triple its life, but for now that's the way it is. It is a Tesla Roadster with the problems of a Ford Pinto and the range of a Gwiz.
