The Dell Adamo is finally official

Dell has been teasing us with shots of the thin Adamo since CES, but finally the notebook is here. We spied the thin notebook at SXSW yesterday and it looked great, but a spec card was nowhere to be seen. Luckily Dell finally has all information on the "thinnest notebook available" published.

The 13.4-inch Adamo will be the first in the series and comes in an oh-so-sexy aluminum body. The whole thing weighs a pound more than the Apple MacBook Air, but manages to measure 0.65 inches. Unfortunately, it seems that this type doesn't pack the goods where it counts to justify the 1999 price point.

Inside the ultra-thin chassis is a 1.2 GHz Core 2 Duo U9300 with integrated Intel X4500 graphics, 2 GB of memory, with a 128 GB SSD and optional mobile broadband. This notebook could even offer a battery life of five hours. As with the Air and Unlike other ultra-thin notebooks, the optical drive will be external, but will be available in both standard CD/DVD and Blu-ray versions.

Those keeping track will note that while this notebook comes with a 128GB SSD, which Apple is charging $500 for, on top of the base price of $1,799, everything else is in this Windows Vista machine is below par for this price. Aside from that SSD, the $1799 base price of the Air gets you a faster CPU, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics, and a non-Windows Vista OS. Or the Voodoo Envy, the similar ones specifications and size, but is slightly cheaper.

Perhaps the next incarnation of the Adamo will come with something other than just good looks. And maybe some modern specs to justify the very high price tag. March via the equally sexy Voodoo Envy or the OS X-running MacBook Air.
