Comp Ratings

Overall, the Lenovo G50-70 is a solid budget laptop for those who need a full-size system. It offers good performance and surprising battery life considering its small capacity. The best part is that it's easy to open and components. The system is hampered by a number of minor annoyances such as multi-touch trackpad issues and a glossy display. Laptop Mag

At just $299, the Lenovo G50-45 is an affordable laptop with a bright screen and good performance for the price. However, the short battery life is disappointing and the keyboard doesn't live up to the Lenovo brand. Although it's $100 more costs, we recommend the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 ($399) for its better build quality, longer endurance, and better typing feel.Individual review, available online, Medium, date: 2015-08-07

Notebook check

No frills.

Visually, the G50 doesn't deviate from the typical Lenovo look. The internal components are solid and the notebook is not a highlight, but overall it is a very decent package.

Lenovo

: Lenovo (“Le” as in the English word legend and “novo” (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company is the largest laptop manufacturer in China and after acquiring the PC division of IBM in 2005 to the fourth largest manufacturer worldwide. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company also produces monitors, projectors, servers, etc.

In 2011, Lenovo acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Lenovo acquired Motorola Mobility, which gave them a boost in the smartphone market.

From 2014 to 2016, Lenovo's share of the global notebook market was 20-21%, ranking second only to HP. However, the gap gradually narrowed. In the smartphone market, Lenovo was not among the top 5 global manufacturers in 2016 .

Only some 3D games with very low requirements are playable with these cards.

Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail)

:

Integrated GPU for tablet and notebook Bay Trail SoCs. Based on the Ivy Bridge GPU with four execution units and DirectX 11 support.

Intel HD Graphics (Haswell)

: Processor graphics card integrated in the mobile Haswell Celeron and Pentium. The HD Graphics is the slower part, called GT1, with fewer Execution Units (EUs).

Non-demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

Intel HD Graphics 4400

:

Integrated ULV GPU (GT2) with 20 EUs on certain Haswell CPU models.

Intel HD Graphics 5500

: Integrated graphics card (GT2) in the Broadwell U-series core processors (15 W TDP).

AMD Radeon R5 M230

: Low-end graphics card based on the GCN architecture ("Sun" GPU).

Modern games are said to be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers can be satisfied with these cards.

Intel Iris Graphics 6100

: Integrated graphics card (GT3) in the core processors of the Boradwell U-series (28 W TDP).

Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as highly clocked dual-core CPUs (using single-threaded applications), but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Due to the large TDP of 45W / 55W, the CPU is only for big laptops thought.
